The Arquives
Honouring 2SLGBTQIA+ history means uplifting BIPOC queer and trans histories right here in Tkaraonto and across Turtle Island. Here’s a short list of digital resources that celebrate QTIBIPOC stories:
The Arquives is the world’s largest independent 2SLGBTQIA+ archive, preserving the histories and stories of queer and trans communities in Canada. Founded in 1973 in Toronto, it makes this history accessible through its collections, exhibitions, and public programs.
Marvellous Grounds is a book and web-based project that seeks to document and create space to vision the ways that QTBIPOC (queer and trans Black, Indigenous and people of colour) create communities, innovate projects and foster connections within Toronto/Three Fires Territories and beyond. This collection brings together art, writing and research that engages with space making and is in the service of community building.
Queer of Colour is a storytelling platform where queer people of colour control the narrative. It is a space for them to tell their own stories on their own terms, and for the audience to listen and appreciate what is being shared. Using interview and photographs, Queer of Colour amplifies the stories of real life people, their histories, careers, passions, and experiences as a queer person of colour in the city of Toronto and beyond.
The mission of the Two-Spirit Archives is to develop an internationally-renowned centre for research that supports the needs of the Two-Spirit community; makes Two-Spirit people visible in our documentary heritage; and supports the research, teaching, learning, and community mandates of the University. It is guided in its development by the Two-Spirit Archives Advisory Council, which ensures Two-Spirit people are central to preserving the history of their contributions to society and in strengthening their community.
