NOTE: While it’s an unfair reality that healthcare providers show ignorance and prejudice toward non-binary patients, medical standards actually state that non-binary people are allowed to access hormone replacement therapy in their transitioning journey if that feels right for them.  The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care states that mental health professionals treating gender-nonconforming clients should be knowledgeable about the range of identities under the gender umbrella. The Guidelines and Protocols for Care for Comprehensive Primary Care for Trans Clients recognizes non-binary identities as valid and states that hormone therapy should be individualized.
